  • Note: Silk floss tree, (Ceiba speciosa), thorny flowering tree of the mallow family (Malvaceae), native to South America but cultivated as an ornamental in other regions. The seeds yield a vegetable silk used in upholstery. It was formerly called Chorisia speciosa. The silk floss tree is a large semi-deciduous plant that grows to a height of about 15 metres (50 feet). The trunk may be swollen in appearance and is often studded with large conical thorns.
